Investment Fraud, Bankruptcy and Real Estate Litigation:
Currently representing client who loaned in excess of $1 million to a real estate investment company, only to later realize he was defrauded and would not get any return on his investment. The matter is complicated by the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing of the individual having the only underlying collateral. After having the matter removed to Federal Bankruptcy Court by one of the other creditors, Abiri & Szeto was able to have the matter remanded back to the original court where it had received previous favorable rulings, and is now working towards resolving the matter in favor of our client.
Dismissal of Case Based on Jurisdiction
Represented an individual who was sued in excess of $170k for allegedly incorrectly receiving life insurance proceeds. Aside from the case not having merit, Abiri & Szeto was able to have the case dismissed in its entirety for lack of personal jurisdiction. The matter never made it past the pleading stage of litigation.
Wrongful Termination Defense
In defending a medical group that was sued by a former employee for alleged whistleblowing, our firm negotiated a nominal settlement on behalf of our client to avoid excess costs of litigation. The case was settled for less than 5% of what the plaintiff demanded in his lawsuit.
Landlord / Tenant Law
Facing exposure to mold and other inhabitable conditions in her rental home, our client was forced to move out only a few months after moving into her new home. Upon retaining our firm, we were able to contact the landlord and negotiate a settlement of the matter without needing to resort to litigation. The client was very satisfied to not only receive fair compensation for her damages, but to avoid the time and costs usually associated with litigation.
Car Accident / Bodily Injury
Our client was injured after being hit by a drunk driver, who then fled the scene. After retaining our firm, Abiri & Szeto arranged for cutting-edge, high end medical treatment to assist in the client's recovery. Currently, we are negotiating a six-figure settlement, despite the fact that the party responsible was found to be driving without insurance.
Brain and Head Trauma
Following our client's suffering of a head injury at a ski resort, our firm was able to establish liability despite the fact that the vast majority of claims arising at such locations are almost exclusively denied due to liability waivers and/or arguments revolving around assumption of risk.

Currently representing a permanently disabled plaintiff in a seven-figure lawsuit.
